Chapter 7
Drew
Lacey and I had a serious talk after we left Sophiaâs. She likes Sophia and wants me to be happy, but sheâs afraid that weâre jumping into a relationship too fast. Of course, I snapped at herâsheâs been all for us getting together from the beginning, even if it was only five days ago. But weâre adults, not teenagers.
It does feel much longer than five days though. Lacey pointed out the timing of our relationship and the pressure of business, but if it werenât for Sophia, I wouldnât have come up with the snowflake and sapphire idea. If it werenât for her, I wouldnât be this happy right now.
So why do I feel so unsettled? I understand what Laceyâs saying, and deep down inside, I guess Iâm wondering if itâs too fast too. But what about love at first sight?
Itâs almost seven. Sophia texted me this morning that sheâd stop by after closing. Today was busier than most, and I havenât had much time to sit down. This has been the most profitable year since we opened five years ago. I never imagined weâd be as successful as weâve become. I have to thank Christian for that with his business and marketing experience.
I walk through the store to ensure every jewelry cabinet and case is locked up the way it should be. The glass cases and mirrors have been cleaned properly for the next day. I turn off some of the lights.
Thereâs a knock on the entrance door. My heart slams in my chest. Not because Iâm startled but because I know itâs her. I turn around and she waves at me through the window. My tight muscles relax just from her beaming smile. I unlock the door quickly.
I reach out my hand to her. âMs. Krose. Please come in, out of the cold.â
âGood evening, Mr. Devlin. Thank you for agreeing to see me after working hours.â Sheâs willing to play this little game. âI can only imagine how busy you must be.â
I lock the door behind her and latch the keyring to a beltloop on my jeans. âWe try to accommodate our favorite customers.â
I place my hand at the small of her back. âMy office is this way. Follow me.â
Once weâre in and I close the door, I cage her against it before she can speak.
âMust you look so beautiful, Ms. Krose, every time I see you?â So much for taking it slow.
She traces her finger along my jaw. âMr. Devlin, you know I aim to please.â
âMay I kiss you?â I brush my knuckles against her soft cheeks. âOr is that being too forward with a customer?â
âHmm, only if I get a discount on the sapphire necklace I tried on the other day.â
âItâs yours if you let me kiss your precious lips as long as I wish.â I devour her mouth, and she gives back as much as I take.
She nips my lower lip playfully. âYouâll never get rid of me if you kiss me like that all the time.
